With fantastic weather and good (especially fast) snow conditions, the traditional horn sled race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the valley to the Partnachklamm gorge opened on Saturday, January 6, 2018 as planned at 12:00 noon.
Around 6,000 spectators were present when the 49th horn sled race was ceremoniously opened by the 1st chairman Peter Strodl, the 1st mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen Dr. Meierhofer and the ski star Felix Neureuther.
Non-stop action awaited the spectators from then on. The participants raced down into the valley on their massive horn sleds at spectacular speeds and sometimes with heavy contact with the boards. At the finish line, not only the time but also the distance of the finish jump was measured.
After the first 25 participants, there was the first break with the now traditional mini bob race for the little spectators. Due to the high number of participants, 2 runs had to be carried out, with the best two of the 15 participants in each run being judged the winners.
All results and race reports for the 2018 horn sled race can be found on the website of the Hornschlittenverein Partenkirchen e.V.
