Munich has never seen anything like it.
A mini bob race in the middle of the city.
The Gong 96.3 Mike-Thiel-Show mini bob race took place on February 6, 2011 in the Snow City at Wittelsbacherplatz in Munich in bright sunshine and double-digit plus temperatures.
Hundreds of spectators came to witness this spectacle and cheer on the participants.
The 32 participants were drawn by Radio Gong 96.3 from a large number of applicants. The rush was huge, as great prizes awaited the fastest three zipflbob riders.
The third prize was a Cooper T100 Monza all-round bike for leisure, fitness and city traffic, the second prize was 1 week’s family vacation in one of the fam hotels including a fam so well package and the winner was awarded 1 week’s luxury winter trip for 2 people to Aspen/USA.
The prospect of winning one of the three prizes spurred the 32 participants on. The race was a parallel slalom in a knockout system. Two zipflbob racers competed against each other and only the fastest racer progressed to the next round.
The level of difficulty was then increased from the semi-final onwards. The two starters had to ride the slalom course with the mini plastic bob, then grab their mini bob, run up the whole slope again and tackle the course once more.
The final was a real heart-stopper. It had to be repeated because both riders had made a mistake that would have led to disqualification.
The spectacle was presented by Gong 96,3 Morning Man Mike Thiel and his eternal second legist Kaka, while Gong 96,3 DJ Basti Schäch provided the necessary party atmosphere during the race and at the after-race party.
The winners were applauded for their performance at the award ceremony and the celebrations went on for a long time.
